Working Hard or Hardly Working?

March 31, 2010 2 comments

It’s been awhile since I last wrote, but I have the PR work to back up the lack of blogging time this month!

First off, I’m very happy to announce that Child & Family Services is now on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube! Dont be shy, become a fan or tweet us! Currently, I’m working on a campaign of social media messages to inform our audience what exactly Child & Family Services is all about and the different programs we offer!

Our April 11th Big Brothers Big Sisters “Bowl for Kids Sake” Event had three media hits in the New Bedford, MA area from South Coast Today, New Bedford 360, and The South Coast Insider! All 36 bowling lanes have been filled with teams of 4 for the event (Thanks for the Support!!)

Our next big project that we are working on is Child & Family’s largest fundraising event, the 5th Annual Golf Invitational at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston, MA ! Here is the Press Release I wrote for the event!

A little side project I worked on was promoting the fully staffed, diverse group of Doctors that Child & Family has to offer. I wrote a Press Release and created an Advertisement that will run in the local paper. The ad is nothing fancy it was created on Microsoft Word but was a lot of fun to do!

Now that you’re caught up to speed, graduation is fast approaching in May and I have a few potential PR jobs lined up which I am EXTREMELY EXCITED about! Who knew that Dr. Van Leuven was right when she said having a twitter and a blog could land you a job in this field! Thanks for reading!

That’s right…I’m taking the weekend off and heading to the great state of New Hampshire! I just downloaded the new WordPress app for my Blackberry so I now have the ability to blog on the go (incredible)! Going to enjoy and amazing combination of relaxation, snowboarding, and FUN this weekend! Be sure to follow me on twitter for some great twitpics!

Full Steam Ahead…

Here at Child and Family Services we are about to branch out into the Social Media World and are really eager to see the benefits of blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube Videos! I couldn’t be more excited to help out and really push this project forward! As of right now we have a YouTube page set up with two promotional videos running for an upcoming event!

In the coming weeks, accounts will be set up with Twitter and Facebook to get a better Social Media foundation. After those two accounts are up and running we will link everything together over a blog of some sort and then link it to our main homepage!

In the past week, I’ve written a few PR pieces for our upcoming event, “Bowl for Kids’ Sake”.

Internship Begins!

January 27, 2010 Leave a comment

Now that I have attended my first PR Practicum class this past Monday with the famous Dr. Mickey, I can officially say that my internship with Child and Family Services has begun!  The three goals that one goes into this class with is to get hands-on work experience in the PR and Marketing field, to help out your nonprofit organization in areas of PR and Marketing, and to build your personal portfolio with this client.  Events and programs I am going to help promote awareness to are the Big Brother Big Sister Program, “Bowl for Kid’s Sake” event, and Child and Family Services Annual Golf Tournament.  I will place all my work in then PR Portfolio tab when it’s completed and would love feedback from anyone who has it!

Moving on to social media and nonprofits.  I feel there is a great deal of potential here to raise awareness through websites such as Twitter, FacebookYouTube videos, and most importantly Blogs!  What better way to instantly reach out to your local community and other non-profits  organizations and communicate whats happening, whats the  needs of the organization are, to share success stories, or just to speak some words of wisdom.  I am going to try to implement this social media aspect into my internship and show Child and Family Services the benefits of using social media in the nonprofit world.  There have been a few articles that I stumbled across when researching this topics of social media and nonprofits, please read them the facts and results are interesting!

A Pacheco Thanksgiving

Lets paint a picture: A huge juicy golden brown turkey, an over sized pan of portuguese stuffing, a heaping mound of freshly mashed potatoes, caramel soaked sweet potatoes, buttery corn, and about 30 of the closest people who you love the most in your life, that my friends is a Pacheco Thanksgiving.  Aside from the screaming children and food coma that usually follows the traditional Thanksgiving meal, this day just doesn’t get any better!  It’s filled with laughs that will be remembered for years to come, the infamous ABBA songs we sing, and the stories that we’ve heard a million times over, I wouldn’t trade it for the world!  So from my family to yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

More Shoppers Expected!

What better way to start off your holiday shopping than with more early morning chaos! CNN reports that Black Friday turnout will be up about 16% this year!  So does this mean I have to get up at 2am instead of 3am?

Reebok….Tisk Tisk!

Reeboks new line of sneakers for women called Easy Tone will be raising eyebrows with their new campaign commercials!  Reeboks slogan for the newly developed sneakers, “Nice Booty, Great Sole”, is really hitting the key points about health and fitness… right? (NO!)  I mean facts are incredible, “88% of men are speechless. 76% of women jealous.  Easy Tone helps you get better legs and a better butt with every single step.”  If Reebok keeps it up with all the great misleading ads, women are going to start investing in some Easy Tone sneakers and ditch the GYM!

…Is it me, or is Reebok sending the wrong message here?
